Lake Como

When we first talked about doing a year in Europe, our plan was to rent a house in Italy near Lake Como and just spend the whole year here. We had searched on Airbnb and similar sites, and had found a three bedroom two bath fully furnished apartment for around €700/mo, and we thought that sounded dreamy. As it turned out, we couldn't do that due to the 90 day restriction for tourist stays in the Schengen Zone, so our plans changed to staying 3 months in the "Zone" and three months in the UK (which is not a participant in the Schengen treaty, and then coming back to Europe. Because Kat was studying Spanish, we decided to spend most of the first three months in Spain. That was lovely, and fun. But now we feel like we've come "home". This is just a beautiful place.

It rained most of the morning, but I was able to take a brief walk and got some pictures of the lake that I'll post for your enjoyment. Lake Como is nestled at the base of the Alps in northern Italy. The weather here is in the high 60's and low 70's. There is a steamer that you can ride to all the surrounding towns, which we'll do tomorrow when it is supposed to be sunny and warmer. But, I couldn't wait to share this with you!

The gray house in the middle is ours!
