I was all prepared to be angry with the British for "stealing the treasures of the nations that created them" when we planned our visit to the British Museum. This museum is filled with artifacts from cultures all over the world. But a strange thing happened during my visit, and especially as I edited the photos you will see in the upcoming slide show video. I noticed that almost every artifact I had photographed was broken or damaged. Many of the pieces have been lovingly restored or recreated from pieces. Many of the artifacts were missing from displays and had little signs saying they were out for study. It was hard to get around because the whole museum was overcrowded with people from all over the world who were there to see these treasures.

You will see the cracks and the repairs if you look closely, and many of the pieces were unable to be repaired, so you will see them as they were found. I got pretty emotional when I realize what a wonderful thing the British people have done for the whole world. This museum is free to the public, supported by the British taxpayer. Anyone in the world can come here and look and even study these artifacts. They contain the secrets of the ages. The Rosetta Stone is here..the key stone to understanding ancient Egypt and it's hieroglyphics. There are ancient mummies here that can be studied with modern technologies to determine so much about the life they led. I hope this slide show will inspire you to be more careful with the treasures in our own backyard, and that maybe it will inspire you to come here and give thanks to the British people for the wonderful work they have done in safeguarding and preserving these things that tell us so much about who we are and where we came from. When you see it, it will move you...I guarantee it.
