Carnoustie

I was able to play three great golf venues that are all used in the Open Championship during our stay in New Galloway. This one is Carnoustie, which is located about 40 miles north or St. Andrews, and was the easiest of the three to get on. I was very blessed to have great weather for all three rounds, which is very unusual in Scotland. There was a little wind on each of my playing days, and there was some cloudiness and some threat of rain, but mostly sunshine!

My playing partners were three guys from southern California, great gentlemen who were on a golfing junket together.

We tee off on number one!

We looked for a lot of balls in the rough. One of the great things about not being able to hit the ball very far is that they are usually not too hard to find. Yay, me!

I made this putt! Again, the greens were very fast and very smooth, and the caddie helped alot with the alignment and the putting lines.

The par 3 17th. Tom Watson failed to make par on this hole all four days the year he won the Open Championship here. I can see why. It is a long shot to the green, and the it slopes on all sides very steeply. I made a 5!

The 18th is a long par four with some bunkers right and out-of-bounds left, and a burn that runs about 10-15 yards in front of a massive green. Tough hole..made a 5.

Of the three courses, I enjoyed my day at St. Andrews the best, and I would have to say that the Trump Turnberry course is in the best condition and the nicest layout. Carnoustie is the hardest of the three. I'll never forget being able to play these iconic courses!
