New Galloway Golf Club

The New Galloway Golf Club is about 3 blocks from our new apartment in New Galloway! It is very interesting. The clubhouse is very small. There is no "pro shop". The greens fees are paid by putting your $20 pounds into an envelope along with a tag receipt and putting it in the honor box, after signing in on the ledger. If you need a "buggy" (and I highly recommend it as it is more up and down than Mt. Dell for instance) you call Ian before heading out and he will have one out for you. The buggies rent for $15 pounds per day. They have weekly rates at $60 pounds and monthly rates at $140 pounds, so if you plan to use it a lot, you can get a real deal.

The course is very interesting, as I said. The first hole is a par three 220 yards but with about 50 feet of elevation, too. Several of the holes have blind approach shots over grass hazards. The view from the 7th green is awesome with the loch in the background and the castle too. The greens are pretty well kept. The fairways have tons of little moguls, so even if you hit in the fairway, you might have a difficult stance. I wish my gold buddies were here to take this on!

Chris and I drove to Troon today to check out the venue for this years Open Championship. It was raining too hard to take pictures, but I can't wait to be there for the tournament. It's another bucket list item. I'm also going to try and get on at the Old Course in St. Andrews while I'm here. Yippee!
