New Galloway apartment

New Galloway is a cute, very little, very sleepy town in SE Scotland. As you can see, the people here build their houses right on the street, so you step out your front door onto the sidewalk, which is usually narrow enough for only one pedestrian or single file. If you pass someone on the sidewalk you need to step off the curb so be sure to look..and don't forget that the cars are not coming from the direction you are used to seeing them come from. This is the main street in town, and as you can see it is barely wide enough for two cars, and cars are allowed to park on the street, so it is narrowed to one lane. If you are going in the lane the cars are parked in, you need to make sure no one is coming from the other direction before you proceed. Luckily, there is very little traffic, and people are used to this, and very patient and polite about letting people in "their" lane.

Our apartment is part of an unusual duplex one house off the main road, so we don't get any bother from the traffic.

The interior is new remodeled, and very modern with mostly Ikea furnishings. It has a full sized (European full size) fridge, a dishwasher, a very modern bath with heated towel racks and a jacuzzi tub. It has a washer and dryer! The only thing it lacks is a microwave, but we can do without that for a month.

Since the houses usually have no front yard, the back yards typically look like this.

We are really enjoying our new digs, and looking forward to exploring Edinburgh, some more of Glasgow, perhaps, Dublin, and getting to the Open Championship and hopefully St. Andrews for a round on the Old Course. Hope the weather warms and clears a little :-)
