The "Glenlee"

We had a "speed date" with the marina in Glasgow...we were passing through on our way to New Galloway, and decided to stop in at the marina to see the Tall Ship. The Glenlee was built in Glasgow and set sail for the first time in the 1890's. She circumnavigated the globe 4 times and sailed around the fearsome Cape Horn 15 times as she plied the seas with moving cargo. She spent some time as a training vessel for the Spanish Navy, and was also owned by the Italian Navy for a spell. She was saved from mothballs in 1990 and restored over the early part of that decade. She is now permanently anchored in the Glasgow marina as a free attraction with restored features and interactive fun for kids of all ages.
Here is the ship's exterior. You can click on any image for a larger view, and self-paced slide show.
Here is the interior, including the Captain's quarters, the Captain's bath, the chart room, the Captain's kitchen, the cargo hold, the anchor bay, the engine room, and the crew's quarters and mess.
We had a good time, including eating a lunch on board (no pictures of that, or of Mom hitting the deck when she tried to sit down on a tilted bench), but here are pictures of Ellie swabbing the deck (without even being asked!!!), the girls at the entrance, and the young girls sitting in a huge indoor/outdoor carpet covered easy chair that was too funny not to take a picture of!
Happy sailing! Ahoy!
