The Alhambra

On our way "home" from Gibraltar, we decided to split the drive in half with a visit to The Alhambra in Granada. The Alhambra is a palace/fortress originally built in AD 889 on the remains of Roman structures, and then largely ignored until it was renovated in the 1300's by the Moorish occupiers. It is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains overlooking Granada. The palace was reconquered by Ferdinand and Isabella, and was the site of the commission of Christopher Columbus for his expedition. It's good to be rich!

The grounds and gardens are simply stunning, as I hope you can see from the following slide show.
