Barcelona's museums

Barcelona has some very impressive buildings housing it's museums! The above edifice was built in the early 1900's for a national exposition, the approach to the building starts at a roundabout that has, on the opposite corner, a magnificent bullfight ring (that has been converted to a shopping mall since the abolition of bull fighting in the 1970's). The center of the roundabout had a beautiful statue, and the whole boulevard is part of an elaborate fountain system that many say is better than the fountain at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The fountain was down of annual maintenance while we were there, but it certainly looks like it would be impressive. Below is the museum of Contemporary Art, which is another very impressive structure.

I'm not a big fan of contemporary art.
Deconstruction art, piles of stuff that look kind of like my old garage did, and unfinished puzzles don't do much for me, but, to each his own! I guess some people really appreciate these forms of art.
The National Museum, on the other hand has a lot of art I can relate to...it moves me. So here are some of my favorites from that experience.
The first section we visited contained gothic art from the medieval period. There were lots of breastfeeding mothers, and quite a few scenes of torture. You can't help but be impressed with the artistic ability of the painters. It is hard to convey their ability in these small pictures. Many of the pieces had multiple scenes that told a story..kind of like a Powerpoint presentation.
Of course, my favorite is modern art, impressionist style! They have a pretty impressive collection of modern art here too. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did...(it's not really possible)! You can click on any image to enlarge it, and see a slide show.
Please let me know which is your favorite. I had to take these with my iPhone, as my good camera hasn't been replaced yet...but I think these turned out ok, considering.
